Shelter and sleep systems
Finding shelter in the woods, can be very very hard. So carrying a system with you that allows you to create shelter easily and also have a comfortable sleep is the difference between having a great time in the woods and an experience you'd rather forget. The articles on this page will cover various types of shelter and various sleep systems!
Tenth wonder tarp with doors
This is a monster shelter, 4.5x4.5m tarp with four doors can protect you from the worst weather you will encounter. The tarp doors, allow you to protect yourself from all angles and also allow you to create a tent like structure if you desire. My preferred way to set this shelter up, is the way seen in the photo. It favours a fire in front of the shelter and allows adequate protection from most weather conditions however, the shelter can obviously be set up in many other configurations using the many tie out points on the tarp!
Snugpak underquilt
An underblanket, is a key item in anyones hammock sleeping kit. If you sleep in a hammock without an underblanket, the likely hood is you are going to wake up with a very achey back in the morning. This is due to cold air blowing under the hammock, even with a sleeping bag the insulation compresses and you have the same problem. The underquilt solves this problem it also adds extra insulation, is easy to set up and does not lose any thermal properties during storage!
Trek light hammock
Simplicity is the key with this hammock, it consists on a single layer, two hooks and some cord and that is it. The hammock is strong, lightweight, compact and comfy however, one downside is the hammock doesn't come with any webbing but getting hold of something to do the job isn't exactly hard, the only other downside is the lack of mosquito net but the point of the hammock afterall is travelling light!
