Cutting tool
Possibly the most important peice of kit youll carry with you in the woods a
good sharp blade can help you accomplish every task you may encounter in the
woods.
I have many blades they vary in lenth, weight, design but
in general i will always carry a 4-5 inch full tang knife with a scandi grind.

Folding saw
More often than not I will also carry some form of folding saw, in the deciduous woodlands of the uk the partnership of a good blade on my left and a good saw on my right is perfect.
The saw should be sturdy with a strong lock and most of all cut dead and alive wood with relative ease. my prefered saws are the bacho laplander or the opinel pocket saw both seen in the picture to the left.

Axe
sometimes i may also carry an axe for larger chopping tasks such as a gransfors bruks small forrest axe however, as an axe is rather large and heavy i would tend to put it on the outside of my pack rather than through a belt loop.
Neck firesteel
Round my neck i often carry some form of firesteel. This is so I know I always have means of making fire with me even if I were to lose all my other kit.
My neck firesteels are shown in the picture to the left one is a blank firesteel in a leather sheath and the other is a custom firelighting set made by the paracordist.

Multi tool
A multi tool is a very important part of your belt kit as it gives you many tools to use in a lot of other situations, the photo to the left is of the bear grylls survival tool pack, it contains a multi tool, firesteel and a torch.
The multi tool has 12 locking tools Needle Nose Pliers, Standard Pliers, File, Wire Cutters, Partially Serrated Blade, Wood Saw, Small Flathead Driver, Bottle Opener, Scissors, Crosshead Driver, Awl, Medium Flathead.
The flashlight is good quality and gives off enough light to allow you to see what you need to in the darkness of the woods.
The firesteel allows you to light fire in adverse conditions and is incredibly effective.
All in all these tools allow you many many options and create another dimension as too what you can do with a small amount of kit, i often take this little kit on small scouts to woodlands it covers the bare essentials.

Cotton bandana
Although i cant say much about this item keeping one in your pockets is a must as it has so many uses for example a bandage, hat, scarf, making charcloth, filter and so on.
100% cotton and 2 or 3 square feet is the perfect size and will allow you to do an infinite number of things!

The 'Shard' neck knife
The 'Shard' is a Kiridashi knife designed by Ru Titley. A Kiridashi is a Japanese utility knife and will preform all the tasks you would use something like a stanley knife for however, it is more durable and alot stronger, this particular Kiridashi is made out of an old saw blade from a wood sawing mill so it will stand the test of time. The knife is also coupled with a kydex sheath, paracord lanyard and glow in the dark fob!
